He has more than 13 years experience with proton therapy, an advanced radiation modality which can better spare healthy tissues and organs from radiation, potentially reducing or avoiding the short- and long-term side effects of treatment. He is an Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology at Emory University School of Medicine and serves as the Medical Director of the Emory Proton Therapy Center. In addition to his primary practice at the Emory Proton Therapy Center, Dr. McDonald sees patients in consultation at the Head and Neck Multidisciplinary Clinic at Emory University Hospital Midtown. Dr. McDonald previously served as director of the residency program in the Department of Radiation Oncology.
