Provider Description
Dr. Kim Gushanas (she/her), Ph.D. is a Licensed Psychologist and Assistant Professor at The University of Texas Medical Branch in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in Galveston, Texas. Dr. G received her doctorate in school psychology with a specialization in child clinical psychology from the University of Texas in Austin where she studied collaborative healthcare and pediatric psychology. Her fellowship at Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX allowed to further her expertise in trauma-informed, pediatric psychology and consultation. Dr. G’s work currently revolves around trauma-informed research, education, and psychological services that help youth and families affected by stressful events, disasters, and suicide. She is passionate about improving equity and access to culturally-sensitive, preventative healthcare from a systems-based perspective- which means starting in the family, at school, and in the doctor's office. Dr. G currently provides clinical services to Texas schools through the Texas Child Health Access Through Telemedicine (TCHATT) initiative as well as research investigation for the Texas Youth Depression, Suicide and Trauma Research Networks through the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium. Dr. Gushanas is an energetic and eager ally to LBGTQIA+ and Gender Diverse youth and families. She advocates frequently in her community and state for gender-affirming care and mental health equity for all Texans.
