Provider Description
Hi, I’m Tracy! I’m a trauma-informed psychotherapist intern with The Diversity Center, trained in Mindfulness and Gestalt psychotherapy. I practice from an anti-racist lens and gender + sexuality affirming model. I believe all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) people have a right to competent and sensitive mental healthcare providers, who understand their unique health concerns and treat them and their families with respect. I am trained by RISE (Recognize Intervene Support Empower) a model that works with youth, parents, caregivers, and professionals to prepare families, organizations, and systems to respond to the needs of LGBTQ+ youth and combat the heterosexism and anti-LGBTQ+ bias that leads to adverse health and mental health outcomes. I am also trained by the Family Acceptance Project® where research shows that families play a critical role in contributing to serious health risks & promoting well-being for LGBTQ young people. I advocate for how client's family behaviors affect one's LGBTQ child’s health risks and ways to reduce risk and increase support. I have experience working with disordered eating and eating disorders along with anxiety, depression, self-harm and trauma. I weave in Mindfulness and Transpersonal Psychology as a way to tap into each client’s true Self for optimal growth and healing. My goal is to help a client reconnect with joy, relief of existential distress, to find meaning and purpose. Sometimes we function with a limited sense of self from childhood, family and the environment we were raised. I link the magical transpersonal process (non drug, non ordinary states of consciousness) in tandem with Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to restructure thoughts and patterns for growth and transformation. Attachment Theory also informs my work as a therapist, with curiosity about childhood attachment wounds and the associated coping strategies implemented for survival that no longer serve us. I use playfulness, humor, art and music to expand the window of tolerance so clients can trust themselves again. I believe in the power of our inner healing intelligence. I look forward to meeting you! Listed provider: Tracy Korpela. Credentials: Pre-Licensed Practitioner. Areas of care: Behavioral/Mental Health, Mental Health, Therapist.
